An Underground Classic October 26, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really dug Paul Steward's collection of tales that have already become an underground classic with cavers and spelunkers. If you've ever had a nightmare about being trapped in a dark, dank dungeon -- read this book with the light on!
Steward takes you live into graves of the mind. March 25, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Paul Steward has written stories about the underground (literally) that will give you that claustrophobic feeling of being surrounded by your own grave dirt. From weird to downright scary, you'll relish these tales from a master of caving.
Paul Steward is one sick genius. October 13, 1999 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If Stephen King slipped on some mud-slick coveralls and slithered into a deep crack and stayed down there way too long, he'd emerge with this book. Steward's caving tales are by turns eery, morose, and screamingly funny. I can't wait for the next collection.
Great bathroom reading! August 5, 1999 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Cavers have known for years that Paul Steward has a mind of his own. A twisted, warped, demented mind all his own. Now the rest of the world can join in the fun enjoying the fruits of his imagination. Twenty-six short stories, perfect for the subway, the bus, the doctor's office or the 'pot', sure to chill you, turn your stomach and make you laugh. Here's hoping there'll be a sequal!
A must read for cavers and normal above ground humans alike. April 8, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dirt, Danger, and Darkness is an exciting wild ride into the demented mind of Paul Steward. Never ending suspense and unexpected plot twists keep the reader on the edge of their seat. A must read for anyone who is contemplating going on a cave trip, if this book doesn't dissuade you then you are destined to become a hard core caver.
