Best Halloween book February 10, 2000 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a very clever book with a great message for kids and adults. The main character struggles with being loyal to his mother not wanting to hurt her feelings. The other dogs pick on him, but he stays his course and becomes a hero in the end. We have read it over and over for the last three years.
Terrific book for pre-schoolers -- any time of the year. November 4, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my grandson when he was three years old (suggested age is 4 -7, but I disagree). He just loved it and wanted it to be read over and over again -- Halloween or not!
This book is a real "Hooooowl"! October 29, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you buy one Halloween book to share with your children or your students...let this be the one.
Fun book for kids of all ages! Great story, great pictures. October 17, 1999 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've read this book to 1st graders who loved the story & the pictures. I love it because I'm wild about dachshunds & enjoy the puns! It's such a good story.
A Funny Book For Young Dog Lovers October 8, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the most entertaining children's book I've read in a long time. The story of Oscar (the wiener dog)is sweet and appealing. The other dogs make fun of him for being "half a dog tall and one-and-a-half dogs long." To Oscar's dismay, his mother makes a giant hot dog bun (complete with mustard) for his Halloween costume. Although he despises the nickname "wiener dog", he wears the costume anyway to keep from hurting his mother's feelings. There are several appealing plays on words in the story, good illustrations, and a happy ending. My little girl loved the snickering cats as well as the hero of the story. I've read it to her at least ten times in the last three days, and I still like it.
