5 out of 5 stars GRRR-eat for young readers!   June 18, 2001

I read the Hallo-wiener to a class of kindergarten students before Halloween who couldn't help but giggle at Pilkey's imaginative illustrations on each page. The story warms the heart as the "underdog" saves the day and becomes the hero in the end. I put this in the classroom library and students fought over who would read it next! I had to buy several copies. You'll adore this one. Also, check out Pilkey's other gems, Dogzilla and Kat Kong. They, too, are terrific fun!

4 out of 5 stars Great for Dachsund Owners   May 30, 2001

This is a cute book with an interesting story for the appropriate age group. I purchased the book as a gift for a friend who owns two long-haired mini dachshunds. For him, it was the perfect gift.

5 out of 5 stars Every Pun Intended   April 13, 2000

This book, about a "wiener dog" who gets no respect from his peers, is a real scream. It shares a terrific message--you can do great things even if you are picked on by all the other kids. Although aimed at children, there is a lot of subtle humor. For example, the "wiener" dog's name is Oscar, his mailbox says "Myers", and the teacher (at Obedience School) is reading "Dogs Who Hate Fleas and the Fleas Who Love Them." Highly recommended for all elementary age kids, but it is understandable by pre-Ks as well (our 4 year old loves it).

5 out of 5 stars We love this book.   April 12, 2000

We are a kindergarten class in Mississippi. This is one of our favorite books. It was sad when the other dogs picked on Oscar but the story was funny. We want other kids to read this book because they will love it too, just like we do. Let us know if you like it and write to annblair@netdoor.com. Thanks and let us know what you thought.
