Disappointing--should have waited for the paperback! July 28, 1999 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thoroughly enjoyed the early Bloodhound books, but the last two have been disappointing. I am very tired of the Attitude from Jo Beth, and the dialog seems stilted. I couldn't imagine people speaking those words and sentences! And there's no reason a woman with integrity has to be a lecturing jerk. The bloodhound stories are fascinating--if Jo Beth can get her personality in order!
Wonderful addition to a very addictive series. July 26, 1999 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
"Ten Little Bloodhounds" sends us off on several almost simultaneous trails, any one of which would make the book well worth reading. As with previous works in the JoBeth-Bloundhound series, I couldn't put the book down. I especially liked the irony of searching for the cat with the dog who was kicked out of the man-hunt-drug-sniffing work because he would trail critters. I guess EVERY dog has his day. The intensity of individual search missions did not seem quite as great as in most of the other books, but the intensity of strain on friendships caused by JoBeth's hard-headedness and meddling in her close friends lives is greater than ever. This strain is more the focus of TLB. JoBeth is more nosier (sic) and more bossier (sic) than ever. Sometimes you want to slap her, but you can't help but love her. Bubba's meaner'n ever, and has help, as if he needed it. In light of the flurry of an ending, I can't wait to see what happens to JoBeth next.
Disappointing addition to the series July 21, 1999 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I thought this was easily the least engaging book in this series. The mystery, such as it was, had very little meat to it. I found Jo Beth more ornery and self-righteous than ever before. She alienates everyone, always getting on her high horse and lecturing both friends and newly-met acquaintances. A very disappointing read...
THIS IS DEFINITELY A DISAPPOINTMENT. July 20, 1999 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Sorry to disagree with the rest of the "pack", but I don't feel that this was such a great book. Jo Beth gets on her high horse for no good reason. Her attitude is getting to be old hat. Too much philosophy-ing and not enough action. I have enjoyed all the other titles but have noticed that this "attitude" gets worse with every book and, frankly, its getting on my nerves. Guess I just don't understand why she is such a thin skin when she had overcome so much in her past. The better her life gets, the more attitude she puts on. Maybe the next book will be better, but I'll either read a library copy first or wait till it comes out in paperback.
Excellent July 19, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love these books. The books, the swamps, the troubles that Bubba and company causes, the solutions to the problems. They are all terrific. I must admit to a bit of dismay at the end of the last book and Bobby's playing with the butterflies, but I was glad to find an explanation for his behavior in this one.Read this and all the other bloodhound stories.
