I'll take another of Wright's Whiskey November 18, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
First, I'll admit I know the writer and may be a bit prejudiced. But I never was such an enthusiastic mystery reader until I read her work. She makes the investigator's role a fast sleigh (I think over snow) ride through sometimes lovely, other times sinister country cold, dark and leafless as I understand Michigan can be in the company of (or behind or ahead of) a cast of quirky characters, brought to life by Ms. Wright's empathy and wit. These are people you look forward to meeting on the pages of her next books. Whiskey, the detective, cares about kids and dogs but is determined to get her bad guy. And like the imbiber whose world is getting funnier and more surreal, she manages to pull it off and walk away from the bar in a straight line.
Ideal for those with a sense of humor November 13, 2005 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The author's vast experience in the theatre is evident in this novel's witty dialogue and comic sensibility.
Fast Paced, Witty, Fun! November 7, 2005 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
What a great read! Ms. Wright makes you want to re-visit the town, the characters and Abra the dog as soon as possible. This is a very fast paced, witty mystery with characters that you really care about and lots of laughs along the way. If you like Janet Evanovich, you will LOVE this book. Can't wait for the next one!.
I can hardly wait for the TV series November 7, 2005 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Like any great TV series featuring small town America (think Northern Exposure meets Twin Peaks), Whisky on the Rocks' strongest points are its people and its place. Magnet Springs is a quiet country town where all is not as it would appear in Whisky's realty brochures. Smart, funny, and full of life, this book's mystery is mearly one of the reasons to return over and over to the world Ms. Wright has created. These characters have legs, meaning it feels like a world we will definitely want to visit in future books to come. Bartender, give me another.
Comical, Dark, and easy to read November 7, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have passed this on to no less than 4 people since purchasing it in September. Everbody has LOVED it and can't wait to read another! Currently, it's in my mom's hands. Blessed enough to be friends with the writer, I see so much of her in Whiskey. Abra comes to life - I've never actually been in the presence of an afghan hound, but I can visualize so much based on what Nina describes. Chester is endearing as can be.... I just loved it! What a fabulous break from script-reading! Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!!
