Product Description
An intimate look at America's fifth most popular breed

Is there any breed more recognizable than a Dachshund? The lovable wiener dogs have captured America's heart and imagination with their noble bearing and comical personalities. And the breed truly offers something for everyone, with long coats, wire coats, and smooth coats, standard size and miniatures. This book examines the characteristics that make a Dachshund so special. From choosing the right puppy to basic care and training to old age, every aspect of Dachshund ownership is covered. You'll meet famous Dachies past and present, and learn what makes them great. All the sports Dachshunds can compete in are discussed, along with show ring requirements.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book!   July 17, 2005
If you are getting a dachshund or thinking about getting a dachshund.......this is a must have! As the author admits this is not an all inclusive how to train your dog book. But, it does touch on training and specific to dachshunds. They can be a quirky breed (of course that only makes that more lovable!). Those quirks are covered well in this book. Potty issues are always something to contend with when you own a dachshund, but the book touches on how to deal with that. Other training books are generic and not specific. The care for a dachshund is a little different due to their structure.......this is also covered in the book. Other than all that......the pictures are just gorgeous!!!!!! You can't turn a page without each dachshund touching your heart. This also would make a wonderful present for any dachshund lover. The book is informative and entertaining!

5 out of 5 stars An excellent book and guide for understanding your Dax   November 13, 2004

This is a very well written and laid out book, with many color photographs, by an author who is obviously a Dax devotee, personally interested in the breed's welfare. In it you will find everything you would want to know about that cute, short, long clown of a dog in your life - your Dax; from puppyhood to old age, it will teach you how to care for your dog, how to train it, and how to keep it healthy. Definitely highly recommended!

I very much enjoyed this book. It covers many areas and is full of good info. Not a generic book with the word dachshund filled into the blanks. Lots of nice colour photos.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding for Dachshunds!   October 23, 2000

This is the finest 'coffee table' books on the Dachshund breed. The book has a huge number of photographs depicting the dachshund as it really is - in every aspect. A book for the breeder as well as the enthusiastic pet owner, novie and professional as well. You will truly enjoy this book for its content in both picture and written word.
