3 out of 5 stars They're so low, it's harder to look `em in the eyes!   June 19, 2004

After almost 30 years of Saints (Bernards,) I'm getting a Basset! What I wanted Ms. Walton to teach me was, what is different about this breed from others? What, specifically, makes a family basset happy & healthy? What I got was a dry lot of high falutin' blood lines and family trees (like all those Biblical 'begats,') home-made kibble recipes (June Cleaver and Martha Stewart are unavailable and I haven't the time - I'd rather play with my puppy!) and Dog Show preparation.
Stay tuned for more news of me & my baby basset, Lucy Inda Sky. /TundraVision

5 out of 5 stars This is THE definitive book on bassets   May 27, 2004

Margaret Walton is known in basset circles as the "mother" of the basset hound in America since she, along with Ann German were responsible for being the foundation of the wonderful bassets we have today. Mrs. Walton is the founder of the renowned "LynMar" bloodline and is still an active AKC judge. Her LynMar line is the basis for some of the top active bloodlines in the world. In short, she KNOWS what she's talking about!

5 out of 5 stars HAVE BASSET HOUND, WILL TRAVEL   March 23, 2002

Basset hound owners and afficionados will certainly appreciate this book. It is a good resource tool for the care, breeding and general ownership of a basset hound. These long eared, lovable dogs are certainly appealing and the photographs of these hounds will bring smiles to many faces.

This book will appeal to all, from the serious breeder to the pet lover who shares a home with such a lovable hound. The basset hound has certainly had a long standing place in advertising -- in the 1960s a basset hound puppy helped sell Hush Puppy shoes; in the 1990s the Maytag repairman was accompanied by a basset hound. A local furniture store in my area has a female basset hound named Isadora Duncan ("Izzy") hop onto a sofa to prove how soft it is (the couch, not the hound). Basset hounds are lovable and appealing.

(there is only one "t" in "basset").

I'm very satisfacted with this book. Where ever i go i take it with me. The book is everything a breeder or a regular owner of basset hound needs to know about general care, nutrition and training.
